Mel J Knight is a documentary and landscape photographer from Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. His work explores the interplay between humans and nature - how they each impact on and change each other’s forms.

After graduating with a Foundation Degree in Photography in the early 2000s, Mel worked various jobs including event and product photography jobs. He went freelance in 2019, but this was soon put on pause by the pandemic and the impact long covid had on his health.

Maintaining his passion for photography has been a key part of his journey through becoming disabled. He continued to shoot - even at his most unwell - and now is in the process of exploring how to navigate the world of photography as a disabled, neurodivergent trans man.

In 2025, his work is being exhibited professionally for the first time as part of the MYSIDE: GROUP SHOW at the Side Gallery in Newcastle.
